Born under the northern skies of Monterrey, Mexico in 2018, ELCHIVO emerges from the convergence of four restless minds, drawn to distortion, weight, and the slow gravity of stoner rock and doom metal. What began as the need to create something different ultimately became a sound shaped by friction, shadow, and intent.
At its core were ideas forged by Marco Gil, original founder of Maligno โ fragments that demanded a new form and a new language. To anchor them, drummer Stefan Berdem joined the project, a force known from previous collaborations. Later, Viin Angelini on vocals and longtime friend and producer Roi Zerda on guitars completed a lineup built to move forward with a weight of its own.
In 2020, ELCHIVO released its self-titled debut LP, followed by three singles, audiovisual material, live sessions, and performances throughout Mexico. The album established the band within the country's underground circuit and earned several nominations, including Stoner Rock Album of the Year and New Band of the Year.
In 2025, ELCHIVO released Under the Black Sun, an eight-track journey that expanded the band's sonic spectrum without abandoning the essence that defines it. The album produced the singles "The Unforeseen," "Burn the Sky," and "Dead Tree," whose video gained recognition for its distinctive visual and narrative approach using AI. That same year, ELCHIVO reached the number one position on the Top 100 del Metal Mexicano, consolidating a new stage in the band's career.
Throughout 2026, ELCHIVO toured extensively across Mexico before achieving its most important milestone to date: performing at Wacken Open Air 2026 in Germany, one of the world's most important metal festivals. Following this international appearance, ELCHIVO now enters its next chapter, preparing a new studio album for 2027, accompanied by new singles, videos, and an expanded touring schedule that cements its place as a premier force in the Latin American heavy music scene.
